Moon passes the sun Birds flock midday in panic Twilight quickly forms A moment of calm Ceasing the day to night time Darkness overcomes Moments light return Unsure chirps, dazed confusion Life back to normal
The feature image is the total solar eclipse taken in South Carolina in the cone of darkness in August, 2017.

Thanks Willow! The next full solar eclipse for us is April, 2024 and we plan on travelling to Texas for that. Looking forward to it. ๐

Yay! I heard they had stopped distribution because of serious side effects.

Thank you Deborah! ๐ It was a magical day and happened as I described in the haiku. Those poor birds were at a loss. ๐

Yep, might be in the form of an airplane ride. Don’t know yet, but getting the hell out of dodge. ๐ April will be a great time for birding too! Smack in the middle of migration season. ๐

What part of Texas are you looking at?

Probably around Waco. That is the center of totality. Then will head up to Fort Worth to see my sister and other family. DFW is in the cone but on the edge. I want to make sure we are in full eclipse mode! LOL! No concrete plans yet, but it is planned to be there. ๐

My son lives in Dallas. I might need to plan a trip to coincide with the eclipse.

Yep that would be awesome! We are supposed to meet other friends out there. One from Virginia and one from Washington state. It would be cool if we all stayed at the same place and watched this together. In 2023, we will start doing our searching for where to stay….blah blah blah. ๐

The one we were at was totality. We rented a Town N Country minivan and drove to South Carolina. Met up with Frank’s friends from Virginia and Washington at a B&B. Had the best 4 day weekend! ๐

What an adventure. A friend of mine in Illinois and her husband did something similar. I bought one of her framed prints.

That is so cool! I don’t sell any of my photography. I don’t want to get into the framing aspect, but I guess I could try to sell the downloads. ๐

Thank you so much. It was exactly what happened too. The birds freaked out! ๐ I have a better lens now and we are planning on going to Texas in 2024 for the total solar eclipse. I should get even better photos on this next round. ๐

great shot of the eclipse, and I guess this would confuse birds a bit. But my guess is that they were smart enough not to look directly into it… ๐
