“Hello Walls” – Faron Young

This week for Song Lyric Sunday, Jim Adams has prompted us with Floor/House/Roof/Walls. A great deal of metaphoric references on this one. A true “down in the dumps” country & western song released in 1961 by Faron Young, hitting #1 & staying on the charts for 23 weeks. It was a cross over hit. LyricFind states that Ivy J Brown wrote this tune (not sure where this info came from but I left it down there). I have emailed the publisher for clarification. Willie Nelson is the song writer of Hello Walls in which he recorded it on his debut album “And Then I Wrote” in 1962.

Faron Young

Of course this was 4 years before I was born, but it still brings me back to my roots in the country in Texas.

Willie Nelson’s debut album – “…and then I wrote” album with “Hello Walls”
Lyrics
Hello, walls - (hello) (hello)
How'd things go for you today
Don't you miss her
Since she up and walked a way
And I'll bet you dread to spend
Another lonely night with me
Lonely walls
I'll keep you company.
Hello, window - (hello) (hello)
Well I see that you're still here
Aren't you lonely
Since our darlin' disappeared
Well, look here, is that a teardrop
In the corner of your pane
Now, don't you try
To tell me that it's rain.
She went away and left us all alone
The way she planned
Guess we'll have to learn to get along
Without her if we can;
Hello, ceiling - (hello) (hello)
I'm gonna stare at you awhile
You know I can't sleep
So won't you bear with me awhile
We must all stick together or else
I'll lose my mind
I've got a feelin'
She'll be gone a long, long time.

Checking email and as soon as I saw the subject line, Willie was singing in my head. I’m not a musician so I don’t know the term for what he did with that opening but if you know the song, you can’t not read those words and hear him. Thank for this!

So glad you enjoyed my choice. Willie’s guitar is unmistakably his.

According to my mom, Faron Young actually held me when I was a baby.

What a great old song. I was six in 1962. My parents only listened to country western music, so I remember it well.

No matter who wrote the song, ’tis artists like Faron and Willie that bring life to the music. Great legacy. Now when it comes to bringing back roots, here’s another tune from Merle that should hit home for a lot of us “seeking roots.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rsKt4nUmOaI

Lisa I enjoyed both versions of this song. I never really listened to much early Willie Nelson, but his voice sounds great. That picture of him with the short hair crack me up.

Love these songs… I’d never heard them before. I only remember the phrase, ‘Hello wall’ from the film, Shirley Valentine. Thanks for making me smile 🤗
