August 25 – BOTD – American Robin

American Robin

Here is my entry for Granny Shot It’s  Bird of the Day (BOTD) challenge.

We get the American Robins in spring during migration in North Florida. They come in large flocks, generally with the Cedar Waxwings & eat every berry we have in the backyard. They visit our neighborhood for 3-6 weeks. The time frame has varied over the years. They will also forage whatever critters are living in our large front yard. Natural fertilizer!

One interesting fact is that the American Robin has a 2 year lifespan in the wild. Providing, they survive any predators like hawks, cats & snakes.

This post and picture of the robin brought back an immediate memory. As a child I lived in Minnesota for 9 years, and the first bird I really “saw” was a robin–my grandmother lived with us and she would point out various birds and also flowers, telling me the names. I miss her terribly–she also taught me to embroider 🙂

Love that. I’m so glad this photo could bring some good memories for you. This pic was taken at a Dallas hospital when my mom was in hospice. I had gone out to get some air with my camera & binoculars. There was only the one. I miss her terribly so I understand the connection.

Oh wowwwww, I’m so sorry for your loss. By the way, I was studying your personal photo (gravatar?)–your face shows such gentle kindness and warmth; I felt you must be a very approachable person 🙂

It’s been 5 years, but seems like only yesterday. I suppose I’m approachable enough. Wait till you see my ticked off face. I was in the US Marine Corps. I’m a little firecracker. LOL BTW, I really like your poetry!

Oh my goodness, a Marine!!! Now I’m scared!! 🙂 In all seriousness though, thank you for your service to our country–I’m curious now about what/where your duties and station were…and if you’re okay (PTSD, etc). Thank you very much for liking my poetry–that’s gratifying to hear 🙂 God bless you, Lisa ❤ Maybe you share about your experiences re the Marines, on your blog?

I’m fine. I was in mostly during peace time. I was also in when women were not allowed in combat. Not that way now, but I’m too old to ever go back. That’s for the the youngsters. Maybe I can share some things at some point.
